Happy Holidays to our TFKC family

Happy Holidays to our TFKC family! As 2009 and our tenth year comes to a close, we have much to be proud of and grateful for. Over 250 kids joined us on 37 rides, and 76 kids earned their bikes this year. So we have now provided a ten year grand total of over 1,500 kids the opportunity to enjoy the lifelong, healthy activity of mountain biking and over 250 have earned their bikes! The ReCyclery expanded and sales increase each month. Some of our kids initiated and participated in the creation of bike trails for the Lakewood community, and we’re happy to have completed that project in 2009 thanks to REI. We also find ourselves a member of the expanding TFK National family, one of over 60 chapters throughout the U.S., Canada and Israel, all using mountain biking as a tool to help kids learn life lessons.

We’re looking forward to 2010 as we focus on continuing to grow and improve all aspects of TFKC. We hope to see many of you, with brush in hand, at our 24 hour ReCyclery Mural Painting Event on April 16-17, as well as on our first ever “real” mountain biking trip to northern Georgia from April 23-25. The Board is full of ideas and strategic plans for our development over the next five years; you’ll receive much more information about that in 2010.

As a volunteer organization, it is you, our committed volunteers, donors and sponsors who make this possible. We can’t adequately express our appreciation. The difference we’re able to make in young lives is our motivation, of course. After spending time with us, many kids let us know that we’ve helped unleash their imaginations, shown them that adults care about them, increased their awareness of the world around them, and encouraged them to set goals and achieve them. Those seem like big results from simple bike rides, but most of you have seen it happen. No matter how difficult their everyday lives, the bikes and Mother Nature work their magic with these kids. Thanks to You for being the vital catalysts, and the dedicated heartbeat of Trips for Kids Charlotte.

The very best to you and yours this Holiday season and throughout the New Year!
